Local food, Living food

Local food, Living food

Bringing food back home, to the local.

If you’re still buying your produce from grocery stores, you may have noticed that it lacks zest, it lacks life force. It may look alive, but how living it is? Consider for a moment how old this ‘food’ is by the time it gets to your fridge. The hands it has passed between pickers, packers, transporters, sellers, and you the buyer. Coming from across the country, coming from overseas. How can this organism still be full of the goods?

Our relationship with food, represents our relationship with our biome, both our forest gardens, and our gut gardens. It is an intimate relationship with ourselves.

How connected do you feel to the food you eat? Do you know where it came from? Do you know the condition of the soil, the feel of the climate, do you know what’s in season, do you know what the plant even looks like? Food is self nature, and an opportunity to tune in to the state of your environment and your self.

Give thanks for the abundance of the garden, and the wealth of nutrients it gives us.

When we buy local produce we are tuning into the soils we live on. What we spend our money on supports the very farming practices used to either replenish or reap from that soil. Do you want your Earth to be full of diverse polycultures & multilayered food forests? Do you want your soils to be arid, desertified, acidified, coated in toxicity? When we are disconnected from our food choices, we are disconnected from our environment, from our very homes.

We are our soils; the state of the garden is the state of our health.

We are not only connected to our bioregion we are our bioregion, wether we are aware of that or not. By buying local we support our communities, keeping the wealth redistributing in our local area, which we experience the direct benefits of. Local also automatically equals seasonal, allowing us to ride the ebbs and flows of nature. When we buy sustainable, we sustain ourselves.
